Raspberry PI powered tasks

Yes I love those little devices. With the first versions, they mostly ended up in some drawer after some tinkering. But the version 3 and 4 are very capable little gems that I use for various computing tasks now.

Although it is rather easy to obtain real server hardware, the power requirements stop me from running anything on a permanent basis at home. Instead, I run a rather low power Synology for storage and a collection of Raspberry Pi devices for small computing tasks. This is summary, for your perusal and as documentation for myself

This is a RBPi4 with 4 GB RAM and a sdcard for storage. Running Rasberri PI OS. Tasks include:

  • Running Unifi, the software controller for my network devices
  • Running isc-dhcp-server that handles static mappings between mac addresses and IP adresses (IPV4)
  • Domoticz that collects data from the smart power meter in our home
  • Pihole DNS blacklister

This is a RBi3 with 1 GB RAM, a sdcard for boot and 8 TB disk for storage. Running Ubuntu 20.04. Task:

  • Be the rsync target for onsite synology backups

A RBPi4 with 8 GB RAM and 512 GB USB connected SSD. Running Raspian as OS. Tasks:

  • Running the gitlab instance git.lutra.it

This is a RBPi4 with 4 GB RAM and 1 TB USB connected HDD. Running Ubuntu 21.04 Tasks:
